You may recall one of the #ZMM50th events in 2024 celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance in 1974 was the opening of a new exhibit “Zen and the Open Road” in the National Museum of American History of The Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC. Earlier this summer, Paul F. Johnston, Ph.D, Curator Emeritus of Transportation History at the Smithsonian announced that the permanent exhibit has its own active web-page(s) http://americanhistory.si.edu/explore/exhibitions/america-on-the-move/new-perspectives/zen-and-the-open-road

Paul has been an active supporter of the RPA and provided us with talks on his research into Pirsig’s travels, every bit as much on the water as on the road. That balance is reflected in the exhibit as well as in the content of that web page. As Paul says, it’s an active web page, and he welcomes questions and feedback of any kind, via the link on that page or directly via his email or Linked-In page:
Email:- johnstonpf@si.edu
LinkedIn:- https://www.linkedin.com/in/paul-f-johnston-48ba8341/
And of course, if you’re ever in DC, do look up the Pirsig exhibit in the “America on the Move” transportation section of the museum.
