Announcing a new Pirsig Discussion Forum

From the publication of Pirsig’s second book Lila in 1991 to around 2010, international readers of ZMM and Lila interacted as The Lila Squad in MoQ-Discuss and MoQ-Forum email discussion boards. For links to archives of these earlier forums, and the annotated summary of these in Dan Glover’s “Lila’s Child” (and the scope of all RPA resources and interests) see our Resources page.

Since creating the RPA in 2023 the intention had been to establish a new forum for RPA subscriber discussions and recently, since 2025, volunteers from our core group have been experimenting with the “Discord” platform – for both general discussions and for RPA organisation and management activities. We are now ready to invite all subscriber / members of the RPA to join us at The Robert Pirsig Association Forum. This Discord invite link (*) will take you there.

If you don’t have an existing Discord account (free) it will ask you to sign-up. When you do, please include your real name, in the short bio if not in the user name itself. Please start with the “#read-me-first” and then the “#member-introductions“. After that, let’s see where the open discussion takes us 🙂

(*)The invite link expires after a week, and we will endeavour to update with a fresh link, if you have any problems joining, please use the RPA Contact Form. Once successfully joined, if you have any questions about using the RPA Discord Forum, use the#organisation-admin-openchannel.

Onwards and upward!

=====

Note – Discord is a powerful platform popular with on-line gamers and hackers! One reason for choosing Discord over an email-based forum, is the fact we can use it for live voice and video events and even switch to ad-hoc voice and video discussion in the middle of asynchronous messaging dialogue. We can also use channels to post fixed links and updates to RPA’s www.robertpirsig.org content and news.

Greetings, and thanks for the update.

I’d like to let the RPA know that the Smithsonian exhibition Zen and the Open Road, which opened in 2024 on the 50th anniversary of the publication of ZMM, now has an active web site:

    http://americanhistory.si.edu/explore/exhibitions/america-on-the-move/new-perspectives/zen-and-the-open-road

Please circulate as appropriate, and kindly let me know any questions or if further information is needed.

    Best wishes,

    Paul Johnston

    1. Thanks for the update Paul, great news.

We will as a minimum add it to our resources page, and it may be worthy of a news item itself – circulated to all members.
      Thanks again.

  3. Hi – I think this is a great idea. I\’d like to join using an email address for which I already have a discord account rather than this one. Do you know how I would go about doing that? Thanks.

    You\’ll never take me alive!

    1. Thanks there Mr T – we only know you by this email so far.

If you send us the preferred email, associated with your Discord account, using the contact form, it will come to the admin privately, and we can send you a fresh Discord invite to that address. That OK for you?
